Follow TURFGOP members of congress join Democrats to keep funding kill switch that shuts-off power to your vehicle

On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representaitves took a monumental vote on whether or not to keep funding remote kill switch technology that allows the government to cut power to your car if it doesn't like how you're driving. Fifty-seven Republicans voted with Democrats to keep funding the Biden-era unconstitutional kill switch slated to start going into vehicles this year. Texas Congressman Chip Roy, got the amendment to de-fund the kill switch into the Rules Package on the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (THUD) funding bill Wednesday. When the amendment came to the House floor Thursday afternoon, it initially passed in a voice vote, but when a record vote was called, 57 Republicans betrayed their voters to defeat the amendment authored by Rep. Thomas Massie.
Buried in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) under the Advanced Impaired Driving Technology section of the bill (passed without debate or the ability to amend it), this technology requires the government to monitor a driver's eyes, breath, and lane movements at all times. If the information collected flags a kill switch event, the government can cut power to your car. It's unclear how a driver suspected of drunk driving would be able to restart their car. Would law enforcement have to be called (even if you were just swerving to avoid hitting a deer)? Imagine the burden false alarms would place on these public servants whose resources are limited and often stretched too thin already. Will driver data be given to insurance companies as the ultimate government snitch program? Will such technology be weaponized against drivers to enforce climate mandates, pandemic lockdowns or other tyrannical government behavior? The kill switch isn't really about preventing drunk driving, it's about total government control over our freedom of movement.
